Patrick Angel is an IT security expert with over 15 years of experience in cybersecurity, compliance and risk-management. He has an incredible track record of success in creating IT security and compliance departments from the ground up and manages teams to focus on process improvement, regulatory compliance, information security, and cost avoidance.
Patrick has the ability to communicate the importance of security not only throughout IT, but to the business and executive communities. He has identified and recommended information security technology and business process improvements across diverse technologies in both domestic and international environments for Fortune 500 companies with a deep focus in the Healthcare space.
In addition to security expertise, Patrick has a strong background in audit, financial / accounting with deep skills in annual budgeting and planning. He effectively leverages technology and company-wide resources to increase profits, productivity, and gain the competitive-edge.
Prior to WGroup, Patrick was a Global IT Security Consultant for QVC Retail, where he served as Assistant CISO and Global Security-Architect. He designed and implemented an enterprise program with a focus on risk and compliance. He worked with the business to develop strategic short-term and long-term initiatives to address critical vulnerable areas throughout the organization.
Prior to QVC Retail, Patrick was the Assistant CISO and Global Security Program Manager at Carlson Wagonlit Travel, where he personally managed the timeline and results for 25 projects covering all phases of application-security testing, remediation, re-testing, issue-management and PCI-Artifacts compliance. He was known in the organization for creating value, with the ability to deliver company-wide projects on-time and under budget.
Prior to Carlson Wagonlit Travel, Patrick served as Interim CISO for Texas HealthCare Resources. He was selected based on his experience in creating, transforming and sustaining architectures that protect organizations and their information assets. He assessed risk, and implemented an enterprise-wide security program with a HIPAA focus.
As Interim CISO for AVIALL, Patrick managed the IT Security and Operations (SecOPS) Team, and implemented a Metric-Stream Enterprise-Wide GRC Software. He conducted a review of Privileged-Access accounts, oversaw the Security Red-Team exercise in penetration-testing, led the development of Zero-Day Vulnerability Management, and oversaw the definition of emergency events and calling-tree procedures. He documented security-framework and worked with technical staff to establish security-standards for server-hardening, firewall-configurations, software/web-security, data-protection and classification.
Patrick has a BBA and an MBA in Management and Finance from the University of Texas. He holds certifications for CISSP®, CISM®, CRISC®, and CISA®, and is fluent in Spanish. He is a published IT security writer, and has been featured in the Fierce IT Security Journal.
