Principal

Jay Johnson is an accomplished business executive with over 20 years of Information Technology services experience. As a Principal with WGroup, Jay leverages his many years of national and international experience with service providers to design and execute sourcing arrangements that drive the most value for his clients. As an IT and business leader, Jay has an excellent track record of success with IT transformation and transition, sourcing, global operations, vendor management, and technology strategy/implementation.

Prior to WGroup, Jay was Senior Consulting Technical Solution Manager at IBM for nearly 10 years. In this role, Jay managed complex engagement teams for IBM US Strategic Outsourcing opportunities with Fortune 1000 companies both international and domestic. He successfully engaged, managed, negotiated and signed over $2.8b global strategic outsourcing opportunities. He was the lead technologist for complex strategic outsourcing deals and lead as the technical sales executive providing main interface to the client. He developed technical solutions for strategic outsourcing clients, using IBM and non-IBM hardware, software and services, to ensure seamless transition to IBM services. He coordinated RFP/RFI definitions, response documentation and presentations. As the project manager, he always ensured timelines and objectives were achieved. He served as the primary technical interface for client interactions, IBM pricing, contracts/negotiations, IBM delivery and sales personnel to provide consistency for competitive deals.

Prior to IBM, Jay was the Managing Director at Common Technology/ Solutions Plus. There, he had P&L responsibility, budgetary and financial accountability to shareholders and partners. He provided leadership for operational and technical resources to ensure profitability and client satisfaction. He developed, enhanced and managed vendor relationships to provide the highest value to client relationships. He defined strategic technology initiatives to maximize business objectives for key corporate customers in accordance with “Best Practice” methodologies. He developed technology architectures which incorporate industry software, hardware, and networking solutions using “best of breed” technology. He had accountability for the financial operations and results for two multi-million dollar operations. He directed the development of support center and help desk services for managing technical support requests from customers.

As Senior Scientific Applications Solutions Architect at Storage Technology Corporation, Jay actively managed the design, analysis, development, and support for worldwide Scientific applications and multi-petabyte archives. He managed the technical design, development, and implementation of Geographic Knowledge Systems, including working with Colorado based commercial satellite ventures: Earthwatch, and Space Imaging. He developed all appropriate project plans and guidelines for the implementation of technology solutions which integrate STK storage/networking products into Scientific Application solutions.

As Manager of Strategic Technology Systems at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Colorado, Jay directed and provided support for the integration, installation, and maintenance of all hardware and software: HP3000, HP9000, NOVELL and NT file servers, and personal computers --- MPE/iX, HP-UX, NOVELL, Microsoft Server NT / 2000, DOS, and Windows Workstation technology. He proactively established, integrated, and maintained the diverse analytical computing environment of the Strategic Services division.

Jay has a Bachelor of Science in Business Information Systems from the University Of Colorado School of Business. He is certified in Microsoft MCSE, Hewlett Packard HP-UX Technical Professional, Oracle DBA, ITIL Foundations, IBM zSeries professional.
