David Malicoat has over 20 years of experience as an IT and business leader with an excellent track record of IT transformation and transition, business development, sourcing, global operations, vendor management, technology strategy/implementation and data center migrations. His expertise in global operations with a commitment to service excellence and his proven ability in leading high performing teams is ideal for any transition effort. David develops inventive opportunities for leveraging IT to improve operational excellence and create competitive advantages.
Prior to WGroup, David worked as a Transition Leader and Delivery Executive for Dell Services. David was the primary delivery leader for all Enterprise Services delivered to a prominent financial services company with 4,800 customer personnel, centered in three primary locations, four data centers, with satellite offices nationwide. He was brought in and successfully turned around a high risk and 2-month delayed transition project for IT services in two service areas. By partnering with the customer executive team, he facilitated a solution for a comprehensive private cloud, presented the business case and return on investment study to key customer stakeholders, resulting in an increase in customer application availability from 89% to 99.99%. Through disciplined forecasting, variance management, cost management, and organic growth development, David successfully managed $50MM yearly infrastructure, labor, and rate-based budget while balancing several corporate cost management and globalization initiatives.
Before working with Dell, David worked with Perot Systems as a Unix Manager, where he executed the lead role in scoping, planning and coordinating the move of a customer’s data center (which included their entire critical infrastructure) on time and under budget with no business impact. He also planned and led multiple Disaster Recovery (DR) exercises of key customer financial, logistics, and core IT services, resulting in a 100% success rate over multiple testing phases. David led a negotiation for a support contract with a key vendor and established significant cost reductions and customer support efficiencies.
Prior to Perot Systems, David worked as a Director of Network Operations at Neospire where he developed and deployed a Change Management policy from scratch using the ITIL framework which resulted in a 30% decline in unplanned outages. He successfully led a team of system administrators and technical support in daily projects for over 500 managed hosting clients. He also spearheaded a company-wide effort to become SAS70 certified by architecting governance, creating policy, and deploying employee education workshops.
Prior to Neospire, David got his start at Perot Systems as a team lead where his team supported 90 enterprise class Solaris/Linux systems to include backup/restore, DR, and technical hardware/software refresh in a global service environment. He provided daily operational support in a 24/7, SLA, ITIL service delivery/service management environment.
David has also served for the US Marine Corps as the primary onsite technician for Unix Systems used in National imagery exploitation and as a rifleman. David holds a Bachelor’s Degree in business from the University of Texas at Dallas and is ITIL v3 certified.
